Colchester United's League Two home fixture with Tranmere Rovers has been postponed after Covid-19 issues were reported in both camps.

Tranmere confirmed two players had "exhibited Covid-19 symptoms", external on the morning of the game, but had been keen to fulfil the fixture.

However, the decision to suspend the game has been taken with both sides confirming the decision.

The date for the rescheduled fixture will be made at a later date.

"If you look at the startling rise in cases within Essex, and the impact that's having on the NHS, it would be foolish and naive to think we could continue what we're doing without having an impact on them," Colchester general manager Tim Waddington told BBC Essex.

"You've got to assess the risk and work out whether it's viable - our decision is it's not viable."
