Fifteen minutes of added time were bnecessary after Barrow's Luke James was knocked unconscious

Barrow striker Luke James was taken to hospital following their win against Scunthorpe after being knocked out in a clash of heads.

There was a lengthy delay to the match after a challenge with Jordan Clarke left James unconscious.

The 26-year-old was stretchered off in a neck brace, with 15 minutes of added time necessary.

Earlier, Josh Kay scored the only goal as Barrow held on after the restart to clinch a vital three points.

"We're just hoping Luke James is going to be OK," Barrow boss Michael Jolley said at full-time.

"He regained consciousness back in the dressing room, but he's gone off to hospital and our first thoughts are that he's going to be OK."

James was later discharged after being checked over and allowed to go home.

After play restarted following his injury, Scunthorpe were reduced to 10 men when Junior Brown was shown a second yellow card following an off-the-ball incident with Scott Quigley.

Jem Karacan tried his luck from 25 yards as Scunthorpe searched for a leveller but his effort was well saved by Joel Dixon as Barrow held on.

The win meant the Bluebirds opened up a two-point gap on the League Two drop zone as they sealed a first victory since 26 December.
