Newport's Jack Scrimshaw (R) celebrates scoring the opening goal at Oldham with Ryan Taylor, but the hosts had the final word

Oldham Athletic overcame 10-man Newport to dent the visitors' promotion push and rise a place to 14th in League Two.

Jack Scrimshaw headed Newport into an early lead, a score cancelled out by Davis Kellor-Dunn's neat finish.

Joss Labadie was sent off after a clash with Marcel Hilssner and Bobby Grant took advantage to put Oldham in front.

Luke Gambin levelled before the break, but the Latics clinched victory with Mickey Demetriou's own goal as Newport dropped to third in League Two.

Newport manager Michael Flynn said:

"Lack of discipline cost us the game today. It's as simple as that. He's [Joss Labadie] kicked out at him, soft, but it's a red card.

"We've got to bounce back now. The own goal sums the day up, if I'm honest.

"It's a disaster. We've given them six points this season. It's frustrating."
