Inverness Caley Thistle couldn't hold out after James Keatings fired them ahead

Neil McCann has taken interim charge of Inverness Caledonian Thistle while John Robertson is on compassionate leave.

It comes after the club's first outing without Robertson ended in a 2-2 draw at home to Scottish Championship bottom team Alloa Athletic.

Former Scotland winger McCann had an 18-month stint as Dundee boss before leaving in October 2018 with the club bottom of the Premiership.

He takes over with Inverness up to sixth in the table.

Alan Trouten's penalty earned Alloa a point in a dramatic finale at the Caledonian Stadium.

Trailing to Innes Cameron's first-half strike, two goals in two minutes from Wallace Duffy and James Keatings gave the hosts a late lead in their first game without Robertson, who has temporarily stepped down following a family bereavement.

Miles Storey then had a penalty saved by Alloa goalkeeper Neil Parry, and a goal ruled offside, before Trouten converted his 87th-minute spot-kick.

Alloa narrow the gap on Ayr United to four points, while Inverness Caley stay five clear and climb to sixth.

Inverness Caley Thistle coach Barry Wilson: "The performance levels were really high tonight - we created chances and dominated the game. Even though we missed the penalty we should still see out the game. It's really frustrating."
