Notts County had beaten Wrexham 1-0 at Meadow Lane in April

Notts County boosted their National League play-off hopes with a win which dented Wrexham's ambitions.

Jake Reeves' long range first half effort was the difference between the sides.

County are now unbeaten in six games and Ian Burchnall's side replace Wrexham in fifth, with two games of the regular season remaining.

Wrexham remain in the play-offs but defeat leaves them only a point above eighth spot.

Earlier in the day it was confirmed that the Welsh club's high profile takeover by Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney will be the subject of a documentary series called to Welcome to Wrexham.

Viewers would have been gripped by the drama of Saturday's win at Boreham Wood, where Wrexham came back from 2-0 down to win 3-2 to extend their unbeaten run to seven games.

Notts County also entered the game on the back of an unbeaten streak - five games without loss - to put them level on points with the Dragons, separated only by goal difference.

County made a purposeful start with the first clear cut opportunity falling to Jim O'Brien, whose fierce shot was palmed away by Rob Lainton, while Wrexham's Luke Young tried his luck with a long range effort.

The visitors took the lead when Reeves found himself with plenty of space before unleashing a low shot from distance which beat Lainton.

The hosts responded with a decent spell to end the half and a Gold Omotayo effort was deflected over the bar.

Dean Keates' side were much improved after the break and a prolonged spell of pressure saw a Dior Angus effort saved by Sam Slocombe, Young firing wide and Omotayo heading past the post twice.

But their failure to convert those opportunities could ultimately prove costly to their hopes of making the play-offs, while victory boosted County's.

Wrexham manager Dean Keates said:

"In the first half we were nowhere near aggressive enough and we let them dictate the tempo of the game and gave them a lot of space.

"In the second half we were a lot braver and felt we deserved a point out of it.

"We had a couple of half opportunities and didn't make the most of them."
