Joss Labadie's third goal of the season put Newport ahead at Colchester.

Joss Labadie and Padraig Amond were on target to earn Newport County a hard earned and much needed win at Colchester United to move into the play-off spots.

Nicky Maynard missed an early chance before captain Labadie finished off a fine move to put County ahead.

Colchester's former Newport player Frank Nouble was sent-off after he picked up his second yellow card.

Amond sealed the win two minutes later with a toe poke from close range.

Newport County manager Michael Flynn:

"I thought it was a superb performance by the lads. I'll never write these boys off but again I'm not getting carried away.

"It's three points and the first time we've won at Colchester since 1973 and we'd only scored one goal since 1974 and that was last year.

"So it's a big monkey off the back of the football club."
