Daniel MacKay gave the depleted hosts a shock lead six minutes from time, only for Lee Ashcroft to head Dundee level.
Dundee, in third, stay three points clear of Dunfermline and four above Inverness CT with two games left.
Dundee striker Jason Cummings had a headed opener belatedly ruled out for offside.
And he was denied a late winner that would have secured a top-four finish when his shot was deflected wide.
Inverness CT - who had a first-half Nikolay Todorov strike ruled offside - lost Allardice to a second booking just after the hour. McKay followed 11 minutes from time, earning a straight red for a lunge on Max Anderson.
