Charlton Athletic claimed a narrow win over champions Hull City but just missed out on a place in the League One play-offs.

Oxford's 4-0 win over Burton meant that the Addicks finished behind the U's on goal difference.

Tigers defender Jacob Greaves was unfortunate when he bundled the ball into his own net after goalkeeper Matt Ingram parried the ball against him.

Jayden Stockley had earlier hit the bar for the hosts with a header.

Former Tigers boss Nigel Adkins has led Charlton to five wins from his 10 games in charge after taking over from Lee Bowyer in March but ultimately it was not quite enough.

Adkins will no doubt reflect on the two points they dropped against mid-table Crewe in the 96th minute with three games to play.

The former Scunthorpe, Southampton and Reading boss will now look to secure his fourth promotion from the third tier next season.

Hull, who confirmed the title last week, started the game brightly and Josh Magennis nearly gave them an early lead when he was played in by Gavin Whyte, but their real work for the season was long done and they will be back in the Championship next season.
