Wrexham's play-off hopes received a timely boost with victory over lowly Kings Lynn in their final home game of the regular season.

Luke Young put Wrexham ahead with a penalty Sonny Carey equalised with a free-kick.

Jordan Davies' free-kick and Gold Omotayo put Wrexham in control at the break.

Simeon Jackson scored twice for The Linnets in between a Jordan Ponticelli header before Omotayo sealed the win.

Wrexham remain sixth, with their play-off destiny in their own hands ahead of their final game at Dagenham & Redbridge next Saturday.

Having suffered a setback to their play-off hopes in the midweek defeat by Notts County, The Dragons made a determined start.

Theo Richardson made a double save to deny Davies and Ponticelli in quick succession.

The visitors, having been spared relegation, had early chances of their own with Michael Gash heading over from a corner and Michael Gyasi forcing Rob Lainton to palm the ball away following a good run.

Wrexham were awarded a penalty after a handball offence in the area and although Richardson got a hand to Young's effort he could not keep out the powerful shot.

Within three minutes King's Lynn were level through Carey's curling free-kick from the edge of the area

But Wrexham responded with a fine free-kick of their own and Davies' eighth goal of the season restored their advantage.

Dean Keates' side went further ahead three minutes before the break when Omotayo ran onto a through ball and coolly slotted past Richardson.

Substitute Jackson had already gone close for King's Lynn early in the second half before he pulled a goal back after Gash's effort had been parried by Lainton.

Ponticelli's header restored Wrexham's two goal advantage although it last for all of five minutes as Jackson scored his second and King's Lynn third.

A goalmouth scramble led to Ponticelli netting again but the goal was not allowed to stand before Omotayo's second of the game sealed a vital win.
