Tjay de Barr scored a 94th-minute equaliser and the winning penalty on his Wycombe debut as they beat Stevenage in a Carabao Cup shootout.

The Gibraltar forward had come on for Adebayo Akinfenwa, who slotted the opener for the League One Chairboys.

Stevenage dominated the second half, Elliott List tapping in and Jamie Reid finding the corner to put them ahead.

However De Barr headed home Daryl Horgan's cross to make it 2-2 before sealing a 5-3 penalty shootout triumph.

Stevenage full-back Luther James-Wildin missed the only penalty, with the League Two side taking their visitors all the way in the second-round tie.

Gareth Ainsworth's Chairboys made nine changes, with 39-year-old Akinfenwa captaining the side on his first start of the season.

Stevenage boss Alex Revell:

"Until they scored we were the better side and then after that we huffed and puffed, that's the best way to describe it.

"To lose the game on penalties is really disappointing because of the effort that the players showed in the second half.

"They fully deserved to win this game, hands down, so I'm disappointed for them."

Wycombe manager Gareth Ainsworth:

"What a debut that is for him [Tjay de Barr]. He's only young and he's never played in the English leagues, but he's made an impact tonight, scoring a goal and scoring the winning penalty.

"I have to say Stevenage were better than us in the second half. They really tested us and they've got some good players here.

"It's tough for them to lose it on penalties, but we'll take that - I've still not won a game in 90 minutes in the League Cup in 10 years as manager, but we're in the third round and that's really pleasing."
