Salford City secured their first league win of the season with a 3-0 victory over Newport County in League Two.

Tyreik Wright opened the scoring after less than a minute before Conor McAleny doubled the lead after 19 minutes.

With half an hour played, veteran striker Ian Henderson made it 3-0, forcing Newport into an early double substitution.

But the damage had been done, and Salford closed out the game to move up to 15th; Newport drop down to 14th.

Newport County assistant manager Wayne Hatswell said:

"A really disappointing performance if I'm honest - just a bad day at the office for everybody I'd say.

"I'm disappointed with the manner of the couple of the goals and generally we didn't defend well enough, just didn't play as well as we have done in the past and maybe things have just caught up with us.

"I think the only positive we got was that Matty Dolan's come back in and I though he did quite well."
