Wrexham and Notts County remain unbeaten in the National League after an entertaining draw at a full capacity Racecourse.

Kyle Wootton's header in the final minute of the first half, his third in as many games, gave County the lead against the run of play after Wrexham had dominated for long spells.

Paul Mullin's header deservedly brought Wrexham level soon after the interval.

Wrexham are eighth with goal difference separating them and County in seventh,

Much has happened in the 500 days or so since March 2020 when fans were last present for a league game at the Racecourse Ground, with the club now owned by Hollywood stars and a new manager at the helm.

Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds, who were not present for the evening Bank Holiday fixture despite pre-match speculation, have backed boss Phil Parkinson in the transfer market over the summer with Wrexham signing nine players.

One of the new recruits, striker Mullin, had sight of goal within the opening 90 seconds but his fierce effort was parried by Sam Slocombe, with Mullin then firing wide as the hosts made a frenetic start to match the electric atmosphere.

County soon settled into the game with Dion Kelly-Evans firing over the bar during a promising spell for the visitors, but it was a precursor for a period of Wrexham pressure.

Jordan Davies fired wide and a trademark long-range effort from Luke Young flew over the crossbar, while Mullin had a goal disallowed for offside. Ben Tozer's long throws were also creating chaos in County's penalty area but the away defence held firm.

Despite Wrexham's sustained pressure it was Ian Burchnall's side who went ahead with a minute of the first half remaining, with Wootton's fine header from a tight angle converting a cross from captain Kyle Cameron.

Wrexham came close to responding a minute into the second half as Davies' curled effort flew beyond the far post but they did not have to wait long for an equaliser.

Mullin, last season's League Two top scorer as Cambridge United secured promotion, met James Jones' cross to head past Slocombe.

Jones and Mullin both had opportunities to put Parkinson's side ahead but the second half lacked the intensity of the opening 45 minutes

Wrexham's goalscorer Mullin volleyed over the bar with five minutes remaining and County substitute Ruben Rodrigues also blazed over in stoppage time.

Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson said: "First half I thought we were excellent and to come in 1-0 down was a real blow for us - we had dominated the game for long periods.

"We just couldn't get that moment we deserved but what was important was that we reacted right away in the second half, came out and got the goal back.

"The game died a little bit towards the end, which was understandable with the intensity of the match, but equally with the game coming so quickly after Saturday's game.

"But the performance gives me great heart as we go forward into the season, because each game we've got better and better and tonight there was a lot of very good performances."
