Substitute Dom Telford denied Leyton Orient a win in Newport County's first home league match of the season.

The Exiles were behind twice as Harry Smith scored with headers either side of the break for Leyton Orient.

Newport captain Matt Dolan equalised on the stroke of half-time after Timmy Abraham was fouled before Telford scored his first goal of the season.

Telford's goal set up a tense final 10 minutes but neither side could find a winner in an end-to-end finish.

Both sets of supporters paid tribute to the late Justin Edinburgh, who managed both sides, with a minute of applause in the 49th minute.

Newport County boss Michael Flynn told BBC Sport Wales:

"I know how good Harry Smith is, that is why I tried all summer to sign him.

"I was pleased with the way we finished the game, I was calm and I had faith in the players.

Our fitness was outstanding and on a different day we would have won it in the end and taken all the points.

"Our players who were ill will be back next week, but whether or not they get into the team is a different story."
