Southend United 2-2 Wrexham: Parkinson's unbeaten Reds fight back for point

Wrexham's unbeaten start to the season continued as they came back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 at Southend United.

Phil Parkinson looked to be heading for a first Wrexham defeat after Sam Dalby's far-post header and Rhys Murphy's cool finish.

But Jamie Reckord volleyed the visitors back into the contest in front of more than 6,000 fans at Roots Hall.

And Phil Brown's Blues saw their lead wiped out when Dior Angus tapped in Tyler French's cross.

Big-spending Wrexham, who have high expectations under Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, are 10th in the National League table having won one and drawn three of their opening four games.

Southend are 12th as they look to adjust to life in the fifth tier following relegation from League Two last season.

Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson said:

"We showed immense quality and character to come back, [although we were] a bit disappointed to be 2-0 down.

"Probably the moments of quality, there weren't enough of them, but give Southend credit, they made it a physical, hard game and were right up against us al over the pitch.

"But we scored two good goals, we looked as though we could go and win it, we take the point, we are still unbeaten. We have had some tough away games and we have come through them unscathed."
