Newport County began the post-Michael Flynn era with a commanding home win over Scunthorpe United.

Flynn's assistant Wayne Hatswell took interim charge as the Exiles look for a new boss for the first time since 2017.

Ollie Cooper gave them a flying start, steering in Cameron Norman's cross, with Courtney Baker-Richardson adding a second with a classy top-corner strike.

Dom Telford's late third for the hosts saw Scunthorpe drop to the bottom of League Two on goal difference.

Newport interim manager Wayne Hatswell said:

"It's been a good day at the office, we got back to winning ways. We scored the first goal which was key to today, because it just put them on the back foot, gives our lads a bit more belief.

"We played some great stuff in the second half and we had a clean sheet, with Joe's [goalkeeper Day] save at the end as well.

"It's been a difficult, emotional week. The players have been a big part of that and how professional they were today was pleasing - I didn't expect anything less, to be honest."
