Luton Town continued their excellent start to the season as they beat struggling Hull City in the Championship.

Elijah Adebayo headed in his seventh goal of the campaign to put the hosts in front at Kenilworth Road but had to come off at half-time through injury.

Glen Rea almost doubled the lead from just outside the box before the break, but his low shot was well saved by Matt Ingram, while Luke Berry's deflected strike hit the post with the game goalless.

Hull rarely threatened home goalkeeper Simon Sluga, with only one of their 10 efforts on target.

Grant McCann's Tigers have now won once in 14 games and scored just nine goals this season following their promotion from League One in 2020-21.

Luton on the other hand have found some excellent form following six games without a victory in August and September and have picked up 11 points from a possible 15.

The one blemish was losing top scorer Adebayo after he picked up a knock late in the first half but Nathan Jones' side will be hopeful it is not too serious.

Although Hull failed to seriously test Sluga they did waste a glorious opportunity to equalise in the second half when Tom Eaves tried to find a team-mate rather than shoot with Sluga out of his goal.

Luton Town manager Nathan Jones told BBC Three Counties Radio:

"It's come on the back of a three-game week with two away games. Any win would have been pleasing today.

"I thought we were the better side in the first half. A little bit more composure and we might have scored again.

"They are fighting for their lives - a tough side to play against.

"To take seven points from three games in a week, I'm absolutely delighted however they come."

Hull City manager Grant McCann:

"Luton were better than us in the first half. We gave them the upper hand with the goal.

"Then we are in an uphill battle, trying to come back from 1-0 down away from home.

"The boys rallied, they kept going, we just couldn't get the goal.

"We are putting some really good passes and plays together against some very good Championship teams. We just don't seem to be finding our killer edge at the minute."
