Non-league Tamworth have begun an investigation after Saturday's game with Biggleswade was abandoned at half-time following alleged racist abuse.

With Tamworth leading 1-0, the visitors refused to reappear after the break in the seventh-tier Southern League Premier Central Division game.

As part of the investigation, the club have asked fans who were at the game to come forward with information.

In a statement,, external Tamworth said they were "shocked and saddened" by the incident.

"We do not condone discrimination in any form and will investigate and deal with all allegations as an urgent priority," the club added.

"Tamworth Football Club is proud of the diversity evident at all levels of our club, including in the current first-team squad and non-playing staff.

"We are delighted to work in partnership with 'Kick It Out' to further promote equality and inclusion within our local community."
