Ryan Dow's diving header secured victory

Dunfermline Athletic ended a run of five games without a win as Ryan Dow secured a deserved victory at home to Hamilton Academical.

The Scottish Championship's bottom side made a nervy start and both teams had chances before the breakthrough.

Goalkeeper Dale Hilton blocked a Lewis McCann header, but Dow's diving header crept over the line.

Andy Ryan and Matthew Shields came close to an equaliser and the latter denied Dow with a goal-line clearance.

Dunfermline's first win since 20 November - and first against the visitors in six meetings - ends Accies' three-game unbeaten run on the road.

However, they remain bottom of the table on goal difference behind Queen of the South after the Dumfries side's draw away to Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

Dunfermline Athletic manager John Hughes: "I put my trust in the boys and, on another day, we might have scored even more goals.

"It was a game of two halves, but we had to best chances overall I think."

Hamilton Accies head coach Stuart Taylor: "We just never done enough to go and win the game. It's really disappointing for us with the run we've been on.

"We didn't start the game well enough and that set the tone. We knew the first goal would be crucial and that they'd be hard to break down."
