Kyle Lafferty's first goal since returning to Kilmarnock secured victory against Inverness CT and cut Arbroath's Scottish Championship lead to a point.

The Northern Ireland forward finished emphatically from Daniel MacKay's excellent low cross on nine minutes.

Euan Murray had a second-half goal disallowed and Killie team-mates Rory McKenzie and Oli Shaw both went close.

The visitors' best chances fell to Tom Walsh and Austin Samuels, whose effort was blocked by Zach Hemmings.

Billy Dodds' Highlanders have gone six games without a win, while Kilmarnock are unbeaten in the three league games since Derek McInnes took over.

There was an 18th-minute applause in tribute to Warren Graham, known as 'The Killie Piper', who tragically passed away earlier this week.

Kilmarnock manager Derek McInnes: "The goal was terrific. Dan MacKay was very capable today and Kyle Lafferty still had a lot to do - the technique to put the ball in the back of the net was really pleasing. The fans were different class and really played their part."

Inverness Caledonian Thistle manager Billy Dodds: "First half, I thought two or three of my players didn't believe we were going to win the game. That let us down and we lost the goal. In the second half, we really dug in, but I still think they have to push their bodies that bit more."
