Shrewsbury Town midfielder David Davis has revealed that he will miss the rest of the season with an ankle injury.

The 31-year-old will have surgery next week to repair ligament damage sustained in the Town's 2-1 home defeat by Portsmouth on Tuesday night.

"Unfortunately my season is over," said Davis on Twitter. "It's been a pleasure playing with the boys this season."

Davis, who joined Town in January 2021, was initially let go last May before signing a new one-year deal in July.

He has made 32 appearances this season for Steve Cotterill's Shrewsbury, who are 17th in League One, seven points above the relegation zone with 11 games remaining.

Former Wolves and Birmingham City ball-winner Davis, who suffered the injury in an awkward landing after going up for a header, has vowed that he will return from his injury setback "stronger than ever" following his trip to London for a scan and to see a specialist.
