Barnet 1-3 Southend United

  • Published

Southend ended a run of five straight defeats with a win at Barnet.

An early penalty from Harry Cardwell and Jason Demetriou's strike put the Shrimpers in control.

Ephron Mason-Clark missed from the spot for Barnet before Adam Marriott netted in the second half for the hosts, but James Dunne's late strike earned Southend victory.

The visitors took a fifth-minute lead when Sam Dalby's cross was handled in the box and Cardwell opened the scoring from the spot.

Demetriou then volleyed in from close range to double Southend's lead after just 15 minutes.

Barnet had the chance to pull a goal back before the break when Kenny Clark conceded a penalty but Steve Arnold saved Mason-Clark's effort.

Marriott did make it 2-1 after 62 minutes but Barnet could not find a leveller and Dunne added a third for the Shrimpers in stoppage time.
