Cardiff City have signed out-of-contract Reading midfielder Andy Rinomhota on a deal until 2025.

The Bluebirds head to their pre-season training in Scotland on Sunday and the 25-year-old can now link up with boss Steve Morison and his squad beforehand.

Reading had hoped to hold onto Rinomhota, with the midfielder having played 139 games for the Royals.

"He's a top player, and he wanted to come and play for us," Cardiff boss Steve Morison said of his new signing.

"He had a tough year last year with a couple of injuries, but before that he played two 40-game seasons.

"He was a top player for Reading. We'll manage him right, and we hope to get 40 top quality games out of him this year."

Two separate injuries restricted Rinomhota to 21 appearances last season, with his last appearance of the campaign in March.

The Reading academy graduate says Cardiff boss Steve Morison influenced his decision to head west down the M4, having been linked with several Championship clubs.

"I spoke with the manager, and I liked his ideas and his plans moving forward," he said.

"His ambitions were in line with mine, and the philosophy he wants to play with suits my style of football.

"The club has a good history and a good reputation."

Cardiff also hope to make progress on contract negotiations with Joe Ralls so he can join the camp.

Ralls is now a free agent, but the Bluebirds hope to keep the midfielder who has made 308 Bluebird appearances since joining the club as a teenager in 2011.
