Danny Rose's late goal saw League Two Stevenage knock Championship side Reading out of the Carabao Cup in the first round.

Nineteen-year-old Norwich City loanee Saxon Earley took just 10 minutes of his first-ever senior start to get a goal, as he side-footed home Kane Smith's low cross at the back post from 12 yards out.

But another 19-year-old - Kelvin Ehibhatiomhan - got his first senior goal to level the tie as he finished well after Mamadi Camara's through ball with the Royals' first effort on target.

But summer signing Rose found himself unmarked at the far post in the 89th minute as he tapped in Dan Sweeney's curling pass from the right to send Steve Evans' side through.

Debutant Smith - one of seven Stevenage changes - went close shortly before the break as Stevenage dominated the first period against a Reading side showing eight changes from Saturday's win over Cardiff City.

Rose had an acrobatic effort blocked before forcing a save from Reading's Dean Bouzanis as the hosts failed to register an effort on target until Ehibhatiomhan's goal.

Stevenage were good value for their victory as they created numerous chances against an inexperienced Reading team.
