Salford's Richard Nartey challenges Scot Bennett of Newport County

Ryan Leak snatched a late winner for Salford in a thriller at Newport.

Luke Bolton gave Salford the lead from the edge of the box and then saw his curling effort come off Exiles defender Cameron Norman into his own net.

Scot Bennett started the Newport comeback by clipping home following a corner, before Omar Bogle forced an equaliser from a goalmouth melee.

But Leak dashed home hopes with his first Salford goal, nodding in Elliot Watt's corner.

The defeat for Newport was an unwanted club record seventh home loss in a row.

Newport manager James Rowberry said: "Probably not our best performance first half at all, we didn't show our bravery with the ball that we probably needed to do.

"But we've come in at half-time with a clean sheet, gone 2-0 down and then I've got to say it's our fans then that push us on to get to 2-2.

"It's just a sickener off a set play to concede that (Leak) goal... that's really poor from us, there's elements of that that's not acceptable."
