Newport County battled back against Tranmere Rovers to claim their first League Two win of the season.

Rovers took the lead when Paul Lewis' cross was diverted into his own net by Newport namesake Aaron Lewis.

Newport's new loan signing Thierry Nevers made an immediate impact on debut, his shot too hot to handle allowing fellow loanee Nathan Moriah-Welsh to score his first Exiles goal.

Omar Bogle then put Newport ahead from the spot after James Clarke was fouled.

Newport County manager James Rowberry said:

"Delighted with what we've done today. For me it's been a long time coming. It wasn't always the perfect performance but it was so much better than Tuesday.

"I'm proud of this group and I'm proud of this football club in how we came together through slight bit of adversity.

We want to do well and we'll continue to do that. We've got to continue game to game."
