Former Chelsea striker Diego Costa is going to have a trial with Wolves this week to assess his fitness and suitability after injuries to forwards Sasa Kalajdzic and Raul Jimenez.

Costa, 33, has been without a club since leaving Brazilian side Atletico Mineiro in January.

Austrian Kalajdzic, 25, suffered a knee ligament injury during his debut in Saturday's 1-0 win over Southampton.

He had only joined Wolves on Wednesday from German club Stuttgart for £15m.

Kalajdzic came off at half-time at the weekend. The club say scans showed an anterior cruciate ligament injury and he will see a knee specialist on Monday.

"We now need to support Sasa in his recovery and further updates will follow," they said.

Mexican striker Jimenez missed the Saints game after feeling a pain in his groin in the warm-up.

"It was felt that his body needed a few more days to recover and we did not want to put him at increased risk of injury," Wolves said.

Jimenez, who missed the first two games of the season, suffered a knee injury in pre-season and is "still building his resilience and his ability to recover quickly during periods of match congestion".

Wolves secured a first win of the season at Molineux thanks to Daniel Podence's goal in first-half stoppage time.

Trialist Costa is chiefly known for two spells at Atletico Madrid, either side of a controversial stint at Chelsea when he was a key figure in their 2015 and 2017 title triumphs.

The former Spain striker scored 59 goals in 120 games during his three-season stint with Chelsea.
