Barrow's victory was the first away win in a league match between Newport and Barrow since January 1971

Josh Gordon scored twice as Newport County lost at home for the ninth time in their last 10 league games.

Newport dominated possession before the break but it was the visitors who edged in front when Josh Gordon finished after Harrison Neal found him in space.

Barrow doubled their lead on 59 minutes as Hayden Lindley fouled Robbie Gotts, allowing Gordon to score from the spot.

Newport were always competitive but never looked like mounting a comeback after Barrow extended their advantage.

The win moves Barrow up to second in League Two, four points behind leaders Leyton Orient, while Newport slide to 19th, three points above the drop zone.

Newport manager James Rowberry said:

"We had some build-up play that we've worked on and we looked better at it, but ultimately we've not been good enough in both boxes.

"We can talk about tactics and shapes and formations, but you can't legislate for individual errors.

"It's a massive frustration for me at the minute... schoolboy defending."
