Stockport striker Paddy Madden lived up to his League Two Player of the Month award by coming up with the winner against Newport County.

Aaron Lewis fired the hosts ahead just before the break after latching onto Omar Bogle's low ball across the box.

Chris Hussey's bizarre free-kick drew Stockport level, his touchline effort finding the far corner of the net.

Madden volleyed home from a quality Macauley Southam-Hales cross to seal the win.

Newport almost found an instant response, Bogle's left-footed effort parried away by Ben Hinchliffe, who also denied Will Evans in injury time.

Stockport are now unbeaten in their past five league matches and rise to 12th in the table, while Newport drop to 19th.

Newport manager Graham Coughlan said:

"Basic errors, simple as that, we made them, they didn't.

"We can't be beat like that from a free kick, Joe [Day] is a little bit gutted, but he will live and learn.

"We looked tired, we looked as if we'd had a tough month, we weren't at our fluent best.

"But in fairness to the lads, they were absolutely giving it their all."
