Queen's Park marked their return to Hampden Park with a comfortable win over Hamilton Academical, who remain rooted to the bottom of the Scottish Championship.

All the damage was done in the first half as Simon Murray and Josh McPake scored in between two from Grant Savoury.

The emphatic win is Queen's Park third in a row as they move up to third place.

Accies are now two points adrift.

Queen's Park got their first after 25 minutes when Jack Thomson found Savoury with a neat pass and the midfielder curled shot past Ryan Fulton.

Three minutes later the Spiders were further ahead Malachi Boateng drove forward, and teed up Murray for his 12th goal of the season.

And the hosts' third goal was a thing of beauty, as McPake cut in from the left and whipped in a wonderful goal into the corner.

In first-half stoppage time the impressive Savoury linked up well with Dom Thomas to grab his second of the afternoon and complete the rout.

Accies made changes in the second half and improved, but it was all too late.

It was the perfect return to Hampden for Queen's Park, as they await the completion of their own ground next to the national stadium, having played at Stenhousemuir's Ochilview earlier this season.

Queen's Park manager Owen Coyle: "All round it was a wonderful day. To get back home to Hampden it was always going to be nice, but we had to make sure it wasn't a side show. We didn't get caught up in the occasion of coming back here in a terrific fashion."

Hamilton Accies manager John Rankin: "Of course I believe I can turn around the fortunes, we're two points adrift. One win changes it and we have to believe that, and the players have to believe that.

"We've got injuries but it's not a complaint. We've got 11 players on the pitch that can compete and they have to do that."
