Scunthorpe United 0-2 Woking: Iron fans invade pitch in protest during defeat
- Published
Scunthorpe United fans invaded the pitch during the second half of their National League defeat by Woking, in protest against owner Peter Swann.
It caused the game to be paused for several minutes and follows the club being served with a winding-up petition on Wednesday.
Swann is trying to sell the club, with former Notts County owner Alan Hardy reportedly leading a consortium interested in a takeover.
Asked about the protest after the match, Iron interim manager Michael Nelson said he could understand the fans' actions.
"I'm not going to tell them that they're wrong for doing it," he told BBC Radio Humberside.
"It's their club, they've been here longer than me and they have every right to do what they want.
"This week's been really tough if I'm honest - on the back of a really positive win last week it's been constant negativity, and it's been hard to keep the lads away from that."
Woking remained third in the table as they heaped further misery on basement side Scunthorpe.
The Iron suffered a ninth defeat in their last 11 league matches days and their fortunes got no better as Woking went ahead after just five minutes through Rhys Browne.
Browne got in behind the Iron defence to score his 14th of the season, but the visitors had to wait until three minutes from time to put the game to bed when Padraig Amond curled in.
