Hamilton Academical 3-2 Clyde: Championship side come from behind to reach Challenge Cup semis

  • Published

Hamilton Academical came from behind twice to beat Clyde and reach the Scottish Challenge Cup semi-finals after a five-goal thriller.

Winger Ross Cunningham's long-ranger gave the League 1 side an early lead at their joint home at ZLX Stadium.

Centre-half Fergus Owens equalised from close range for the Championship team before Paul Kennedy's free-kick went in off goalkeeper Jamie Smith.

But Jean-Pierre Tiehi fired a reply and Daniel O'Reilly stabbed in the winner.

It ends a run of three straight defeats for John Rankin's side, who are six points adrift at the foot of the second tier.

Jim Duffy's Bully Wee, who are second bottom of their table, have now won just once in 16 games - in the previous round against Elgin City after a penalty shoot-out - and have lost five in a row against Accies.

Hamilton will host Queen of the South, who beat League 1 rivals Kelty Hearts on penalties after a 0-0 draw on Tuesday, in the last four on 7/8 February.
