Alan Burrows: Motherwell manager Stevie Hammell 'disappointed' to lose chief executive
- Published
Motherwell manager Stevie Hammell is "disappointed" that Alan Burrows is leaving his role as chief executive but says "I totally understand" his colleague's decision.
Former general manager Burrows was promoted to the post in 2014.
The Scottish Premiership club say he will remain in the job until a replacement is appointed.
"I know how much he puts into this and what the club means to him," Hammell said.
"He's very similar to myself - he doesn't clock out at 5pm and go home. He's fully invested. Unfortunately for us, his time is coming to an end at the club."
Burrows, who had also previously served as the club's head of communications, said on Thursday that: "It is with a very heavy heart that I resign from a club that I love dearly."
He added that he "would like to give someone else the chance to drive our club forward".
Motherwell said they are "reviewing our recruitment options as we consider the sort of person we need to take the club through a new chapter."
Chairman Jim McMahon had watched Burrows "develop into one of the best and most dedicated CEOs I have worked with in my career".
"We could not have asked for a better representative or leader - he stands for everything the club and fans exemplify - for all our principles," McMahon added.
"Although we are losing him, we also wish him every success in the future."
Meanwhile, having signed winger Olly Crankshaw on loan from Stockport County on Thursday, Motherwell have added 28-year-old striker Mikael Mandron from Gillingham until the end of the season.
"He offers competition and help for Kevin van Veen, whilst also opening new possibilities to the structure of the team," Hammell said of Mandron, who has scored four goals in 33 matches in all competitions this season.
"I'm really happy to get this over the line as I feel it's an area of the pitch we needed additions."
'Burrows has put an awful lot into the club'
Former Motherwell captain Stephen Craigan on BBC Radio Scotland
I would possibly be surprised at the timing of it because it's such a pivotal point in the season for Motherwell as a football club because of where they are in the league, because there's a lot of recruitment to hopefully come this month to try and reinvigorate them.
But as a surprise overall, probably not. I've known Alan for a number of years. I haven't spoken to him personally about anything like this for a number of years now.
When I was at the club in an under-20s coaching role, I think he always had possibly aspirations of moving somewhere else or trying something new. I gauged further down the line that this would possibly come along.
Anyone in a job has a shelf life. Alan Burrows has put an awful lot into the club from media officer to CEO. It takes a lot of energy out of you. Probably even more so because it's his club. He's led the club with distinction.
