Wycombe Wanderers started life under Matt Bloomfield with a defeat at fellow League One play-off chasers Shrewsbury Town.

Former Chairboys midfielder Bloomfield had taken over from Gareth Ainsworth, who had spent over 11 years in the dugout before departing for QPR on Tuesday.

But there was no new manager bounce as a Jordan Willis own goal and substitute Rekeil Pyke's late effort did the damage at Montgomery Waters Meadow.

Steve Cotterill's Shrews completed the double over their visitors as they stretched their home winning streak to four games.

The visitors had the best early chance as Brandon Hanlan fired into the side-netting after racing into the box.

But Christian Saydee did well to fight his way past two Wycombe defenders before his dangerous cross was turned into his own net by Willis in the 31st minute.

And Shrewsbury goalkeeper Marko Marosi ensured the hosts went into the break ahead with a brilliant stop to keep out Jordan Obita's free-kick.

Wanderers pushed for a leveller as Obita fired a free-kick over and Chem Campbell forced Marosi into a decent save after cutting inside.

But hopes of a late leveller were quashed when substitute Pyke poked home the rebound after Max Stryjek saved his initial shot.
