Sutton United have lost just one of their last 11 games in League Two

Sutton United moved to within two points of the League Two play-offs with victory at in-form Newport County.

Defender Coby Rowe gave the visitors the lead after nine minutes at Rodney Parade, adding the finishing touch to a smart corner routine.

County could have levelled but Offrande Zanzala failed to convert when through one-on-one, and Priestley Farquharson hit the post from the resulting corner.

Alistair Smith's long-range effort sealed the win in the 65th minute.

Newport manager Graham Coughlan told BBC Sport Wales:

"I'm extremely frustrated, I was under no illusions during our run that it would come to an end but it's frustrating the circumstances in which we conceded today.

"I thought we lost the midfield battle today and that was the key area for their victory, and they were worthy of their victory.

"But I can't ask more of my players, they have run through brick walls since I came through the front door and they are on their last legs and lacked energy today."
