Josh Kay's second-half strike was enough for Barrow to end Stockport's winning run with a 1-0 League Two home victory.

After a dour first half produced no shots on target, the Bluebirds took hold of the game in the second and Kay produced the vital finish 20 minutes from time.

Stockport's Chris Hussey was the only player to go close in a poor first period, crashing a free-kick against the corner of the goal frame.

With Bluebirds goalkeeper Paul Farman beaten, the ball cannoned back off the woodwork and relieved defenders hacked it to safety.

At the other end, Ged Garner's shot, which was deflected wide, was all the hosts could muster.

Barrow began the second half much more brightly and finally started to open County up. Elliot Newby shot wide, Garner saw his fiercely hit shot saved by Ben Hinchcliffe and an acrobatic effort from Kay flashed the wrong side of the post.

A fine chance then fell for Sam McClelland, who cleared the bar from the edge of the six-yard box. Robbie Gotts' corner was flicked on by George Ray and McClelland latched on to it but skied his finish.

Stockport went close through Isaac Olaofe but, with 69 minutes played, Barrow's Garner ran at the visiting defence before slipping the ball to Kay, who made no mistake with his low drive.

That knocked the stuffing out of Stockport, who were unable to find a response and went home empty-handed.
