Euro 2024 Qualifying - Group D: Croatia v Wales

Venue: Stadion Poljud, Split Date: Saturday, 25 March Kick-off: 19:45 GMT

Wales new era will kick off without one of its bright hopes for the future - a player most of you had in your line-ups to face Croatia.

Brennan Johnson - who has stayed home for assessment on a groin injury - was the fourth most popular pick in teams chosen by BBC Sport online voters.

Only Neco Williams, Aaron Ramsey and Ethan Ampadu appeared in more selections.

Goalkeeper Danny Ward was another clear cut choice in our poll.

The majority (64.4%) of you opted for a 4-3-3 formation, not one normally favoured by manager Robert Page, with Connor Roberts on the opposite flank to Williams, either side of centre-backs Chris Mepham and Joe Rodon in a defence also missing injured Ben Davies.

BBC Sport website users had voted to drop Ramsey for Wales' last game, the 3-0 World Cup defeat to England in Qatar.

But now with retired Gareth Bale no longer available Ramsey is captain and the most popular midfield choice for Saturday's opening Euro 2024 qualifier, alongside Spezia's Chelsea-loanee Ampadu.

Had Johnson been fit you would have slotted Harry Wilson into a midfield also now shorn of internationally-retired Joe Allen.

However, in the absence of the Nottingham Forest forward Fulham's Wilson is pushed into your attack, allowing Joe Morrell to come into the side.

Despite lack of game time for their clubs, Daniel James - on loan at Fulham from Leeds - and Bournemouth's Kieffer Moore complete your forward line.
