Kyle Wootton rejected a third season at at Notts County to join Stockport County for the 2022-23 season

Stockport County rose to third in the League Two promotion race as Kyle Wootton scored a first-half brace against Newport County.

Wootton headed in the opener and fired in his second from inside the box to give the hosts a 2-0 lead at the break.

Jack Stretton, who scored Stockport's winner at Sutton United last Friday, swept home the third as the hosts continued to dominate after the break.

Kyle Knoyle added the fourth late on with a calm finish.

Newport dropped a place to 18th with the defeat, while Stockport's fourth goal puts them above Carlisle and Stevenage in the final automatic promotion berth on goal difference.
