Ipswich continued their march towards the Championship with a 3-0 success that knocked Peterborough out of the play-off places.

Kieran McKenna's men stretched their unbeaten League One run to 16 games with a dominant display from start to finish to stay second.

The breakthrough arrived when Nathan Broadhead's fierce 17th-minute shot was beaten away by Will Norris but Wes Burns reacted fastest to tuck away the rebound.

The goal was followed by an unsavoury incident as a fan appeared to spit at celebrating Ipswich players and was arrested.

Peterborough condemned the behaviour and later issued a statement which read: "There is no place in the game for incidents like that. The club would like to thank the police for swiftly dealing with it."

Posh showed a first sign of life when Ephron Mason-Clark's close-range snapshot tested Christian Walton's reactions from close range and they threatened again late in the first half when League One's leading scorer Jonson Clarke-Harris' fierce shot was pushed away.

But it was the second most prolific player at this level who struck the next blow as Conor Chaplin doubled the Ipswich lead in the 57th minute with his 23rd League One goal of the campaign - expertly finishing with his left foot after a run and pass from Broadhead.

Substitute Freddie Ladapo saved the best until last with a third Ipswich goal in the 82nd minute when controlling on his chest and volleying into the corner of the net.
