Woking missed the chance to move into the top three of the National League with a surprise defeat at home by FC Halifax Town.
Victory would have taken the Cards above Chesterfield and meant they just needed to match the Spireites' result on the final day to secure a play-off semi-final place.
James Daly sent an early effort wide for Woking but the visitors stunned their hosts with the opening goal midway through the first half through Rob Harker, his third goal in four games.
Harker pounced to turn in the rebound after Cards keeper Will Jaaskelainen parried Tylor Golden's strike.
Jim Kellerman stung the palms of Halifax keeper Sam Johnson as Woking sought a swift reply and Johnson also thwarted Rhys Browne's angled effort.
The hosts saw loud penalty appeals dismissed either side of the break and struck the woodwork through Padraig Amond's header from a Josh Casey corner 15 minutes from time.
Johnson denied Browne before the Shaymen finished with 10 men after substitute Mani Dieseruvwe received a straight red within two minutes of coming off the bench for a foul on Joe McNerney.
Woking now need to beat Solihull Moors on Saturday and to hope Chesterfield do not beat rock-bottom Maidstone if they are to avoid a play-off eliminator.
