Omar Bogle clinched victory for Newport County in their middle-of-the-table encounter at Gillingham.
The Exiles had taken the lead when Cameron Norman nodded in James Waite's corner at the far post.
But Gillingham were soon level when Charlie McNeill brought down Tom Nichols in the area, who picked himself up to convert the penalty.
With 12 minutes remaining, Bogle collected the ball in the middle of the box before striking the winner.
Newport County manager Graham Coughlan:
"The win was very pleasing, I thought our tactics today were spot-on. We nullified them, we knew their strengths... and we had a real big job to do it.
"It's not an easy place to come, they're flying here at home, and to come away with the three points was really, really pleasing.
"This was our third game in eight days so it was a massive performance from our lads, and I thought they were really good and in full control in the second half."
