Newport County 2-2 Crew Alexandra: Brook snatches injury-time draw at Newport
- Published
Lachlan Brook snatched a dramatic draw for Crewe with a 93rd-minute equaliser at Newport County.
The hosts thought they had grabbed a late win themselves when Oman Bogle scored his second, also in injury time.
Bogle had earlier struck from the spot to cancel out Rio Adebisi's stunning 25-yard strike.
The result saw a resurgent Crewe finish 13th, a point ahead of Newport in 15th, who narrowly missed their first back-to-back home league wins since August.
Mickey Demetriou made his 300th and possibly last appearance for County. The defender is among five starting players out of contract at the end of the season.
His trademark long-range throw-ins and nine corners in the first half alone saw Newport bombard the visitors' goal but without success.
Cameron Norman had two attempts blocked by Crew goalkeeper Tom Booth and Daniel Agyei did the same to Scott Bennett's effort.
Agyei had the best effort of the half with a curling shot from out wide that was tipped onto the crossbar by Nick Townsend.
Adebisi broke the deadlock against the run of play on 56 minutes with his left-foot stunner.
Brook then struck the post and Crewe paid the for the miss when Newport levelled just three minutes later.
Substitutes James Waite and Charlie McNeill combined and when the latter was felled by Offord, Bogle calmly stroked home his 19th goal of the season.
Booth denied Callum Kavanagh but could do little when Norman's cross led to a scramble in the box from which Bogle tapped in from close range on 91 minutes.
But Newport's joy was short-lived as Crewe hit back immediately through Brook's left-foot strike.
