Burton Albion have agreed to sign strikers Cole Stockton and Josh Gordon when their contracts with Morecambe and Barrow expire at the end of the month.

Both will move to the Pirelli Stadium on 1 July on two-year deals.

Stockton, 29, spent four years with Morecambe and scored 12 goals in 44 appearances last season, including seven in his last four games.

Gordon, 28, played 42 games in the 2022-23 season and netted 15 times as Barrow finished ninth in League Two.

Burton boss Dino Maamria said of Stockton: "I worked with him in 2015 at Southport and he's proved himself to be a top Football League forward since then.

"He makes things happen in the final third. If you give the ball to him, he will create and score goals without a shadow of a doubt. He will fit in well with the team we are looking to build."

Stockton began his career at Tranmere Rovers and had spells with Scottish club Hearts and Carlisle United before returning to Prenton Park in the summer of 2018.

He moved to Morecambe 12 months later and scored 52 goals in 152 league games, but the club were relegated last season after finishing 22nd in League One, seven places below the Brewers.

Burton tried to sign Gordon in January but were unable to complete a deal at that time.

"I wanted to get back to League One. I want to challenge myself and there are good teams in this league," he said.

"I now Burton did well at the end of last season, and I want to be part of that going forward."
