Rotherham United were forced to come from behind to knock out League Two side Morecambe on penalties in the EFL Cup first round.

The visitors led through Michael Mellon's strike into the bottom corner midway through the first half.

Joshua Kayode levelled with a strike from close range just before half-time.

With the game level at full-time, the tie went to penalties, with Fred Onyadinma scoring the winning spot-kick to send the Millers through.

Morecambe were rewarded for their early pressure when Mellon worked onto a neat through-ball to finish past Dillon Phillips and score his first senior goal.

Kayode bundled home to level the scores eight minutes before the break, before the second-half stalemate, with Tyler Blackett squandering the chance to meet a cross to win the tie for Rotherham in the dying stages.

The game went to spot-kicks, with Phillips saving twice and Onyadinma nailing the final penalty to send Rotherham into round two.
