Ayr United leapfrogged Dunfermline into sixth place in the Scottish Championship with a battling win at East End Park.

Lee Bullen's side netted what proved to be the winner in 11 minutes with a Logan Chalmers strike after impressive build-up play from Jamie Murphy.

Just after the half-hour Dunfermline boss James McPake made a double change in a bid to spark his side to life.

Ayr almost doubled their lead through Mark McKenzie prior to the interval.

McKenzie rounded Deniz Mehmet but a tremendous Aaron Comrie challenge denied the forward.

Despite chances for Ben Summers and Alex Jakubiak in the second half, the hosts failed to find a clinical touch in front of goal as United held on to their slender advantage.
