Newport's Josh Seberry left on a stretcher in the first half

Macaulay Langstaff scored twice as high-flying Notts County eased to victory over struggling Newport County.

Captain Langstaff, 26, scored in each half after Dan Crowley's opening goal for Luke Williams' side, with all three goals assisted by impressive winger Jodi Jones.

Langstaff's two close-range finishes mean the striker has scored 11 goals so far this season.

Earlier Crowley stroked the ball past Newport goalkeeper Nick Townsend.

Notts County are second in League Two, two points behind leaders Stockport County, with Newport in 19th.

Compounding the visitors' misery was an injury to defender Josh Seberry, who was carried off on a stretcher after a lengthy stoppage.

Omar Bogle did find the net for the Exiles in the second half, but his effort was disallowed for handball.

Newport boss Graham Coughlan:

"We came up against a real quality team, they possess a lot of quality that we don't have, and it was a difficult night all round.

"One of two of our players didn't show up, but overall, I was wanting more quality in the final third because we had some good chances when we won the ball back high up.

"But again, it's the same old story, we are leaking goals, not good enough in defence, making too many mistakes and can't keep clean sheets and that's the disappointing part of it.

"They have the quality to punish you and they have punished quite a lot of teams here - if you make mistakes against good teams they will hurt you."
