Gillingham interim boss Keith Millen has been charged with misconduct by the Football Association over his sending-off during the game against Walsall.

Millen, 57, was sent to the stands in the 28th minute of the Gills' 4-1 loss for tripping Walsall winger Tom Knowles as he attempted to take a throw-in.

He has until Friday, 20 October to answer a charge of improper behaviour.

The match was Millen's third in caretaker charge following the sacking of Neil Harris in early October.

Managers who receive red cards can expect to receive a one-game touchline ban, although the suspension can be increased depending on the severity of the offence.

Gillingham, meanwhile, have confirmed Millen will remain at the helm for Saturday's League Two home game against Notts County.

The club said he will be allowed in the dugout for the Magpies' visit, with any potential suspension deferred and pending the result of his FA hearing.

Gillingham owner Brad Galinson said on Wednesday, external the club had interviewed "20-plus candidates" for the Priestfield Stadium managerial vacancy, and he would meet those shortlisted next week.

"I understand the importance of this appointment and appreciate your patience," he added, in a message to Gills fans.
