Gillingham interim head coach Keith Millen has successfully appealed against a misconduct charge by the Football Association over his sending off during the game against Walsall.

The 57-year-old was shown the red card in the 28th minute of the 4-1 defeat.

He had been accused of tripping Walsall winger Tom Knowles as he attempted to take a throw-in.

The FA commission overturned the charge following the submission of a written response and video footage.

"It's a relief, not so much of what the punishment might have been but, from my own point of view, to sort of clear my name," Millen said.

"It didn't sit well with me that I had been charged with misconduct.

"I still feel a little bit hard done by because I think the sending off had a big impact on the game."

Millen has been in charge of the Gills since Neil Harris was sacked on 5 October and he will take charge of the League Two team for their game at home to Newport on Saturday.
