Bradford City will not be appointing Danny Cowley as their new manager after he changed his mind about taking over the League Two club.

The former Lincoln and Portsmouth boss had agreed terms at the start of the week but had a change of heart because of family reasons.

Midfielder Kevin McDonald had a spell as player-caretaker after Mark Hughes' exit but has now relinquished the role.

Mark Trueman will take caretaker charge for Saturday's FA Cup tie with Wycombe.

The Bantams are 16th in the fourth tier, six points off the play-off places.

Cowley, who had a spell in charge of Bradford's West Yorkshire rivals Huddersfield in 2020-21, led Lincoln from the National League to League One in his three years in charge of the Imps.

Bradford finished sixth in League Two last season in what proved to be Hughes' only full season with the club.

They were beaten by Carlisle in the play-off semi-finals and the ex-Wales, Manchester City and Stoke boss was sacked in October after a poor start to the new campaign.
