Peterborough United co-owners Jason Neale and Stewart Thompson have stepped down from the League One club's board.

According to documents submitted to Companies House, external, the pair have resigned as directors.

The two Canadians bought a 50% stake in Posh in March 2018 via their company, Kelgary Sports and Entertainment.

They remain co-owners of the club, along with chairman Darragh MacAnthony. Peterborough United have not responded to BBC requests for a comment.

The changes would mean chief executive Dawn Gore and head of football operations Liz Elsom remaining as directors, along with MacAnthony, though the pair remain listed as board members on the Posh website, external.

Football finance expert Dr Dan Plumley, from Sheffield Hallam University, said the change is just a formality.

"It's a change in board composition and has to be filed," he said.

"It won't provide us with an explanation as to the 'why'. It just deals with the facts of the change in ownership structure."

In March 2023, London Road Peterborough Properties Ltd (LRPPL), the company that owned the club's Weston Homes Stadium, entered receivership because of an outstanding debt of £6.6m.

It was owed to a property fund, OKR Financial Limited, set up originally by Neale and Thompson, although the former has since left that business.

MacAnthony insisted at the time that the football club's normal operations were unaffected.
