Forest Green Rovers held off non-league Scarborough Athletic in a frenetic replayed FA Cup tie to set up a trip to Blackpool in round two on 19 December.
The Football Association ordered the match to be replayed after a mix-up over a loan player's eligibility to play for League Two club Rovers in the original tie, which had ended as a 1-1 draw before Rovers won the replay 5-2.
For Scarborough, the unexpected chance to try to reach the FA Cup second round proved just beyond them.
It was a brave effort from the National League North part-timers under the management of former Manchester United winger Jono Greening.
Roared on by more than 2,500 fans, Scarborough sensed a potential upset as they started brightly against opponents from two divisions above them.
Boro were inches from going ahead after 10 minutes when Kieran Weledji combined with Finlay Barnes down the right wing and the latter crossed for Frank Mulhern, who saw his 15-yard drive glance off the woodwork.
Scarborough took the lead just before the half hour when defender Ryan Qualter bundled the ball home at the far post after Forest Green failed to clear a Barnes free-kick.
The lead lasted only five minutes as Callum Morton's header was superbly blocked by home keeper Ryan Whitley and Tyrese Omotoye tapped in the rebound.
Rovers grew in confidence and ended the first period slightly on top against a hard-working Scarborough team.
Darnell Johnson headed wide for Rovers after they started the second half strongly, but Scarborough had a great chance themselves when Barnes raced clear only to be denied by a great save from Forest Green keeper James Belshaw.
Morton put Rovers ahead with a powerful 12-yard shot after a break from Jamie Robson down the left beat the home offside trap.
Scarborough switched formation and freshened up their attack as they chased an equaliser, and came so close when Lewis Maloney's free-kick struck the post with 15 minutes to go.
Rovers went 3-1 ahead after a close offside call, with Charlie McCann teeing up Sean Robertson to slot past Whitley.
Scarborough clawed it back to 3-2 when Luca Colville was released by Maloney to give the home side a hope of forcing extra time.
That was until Matt Stevens stroked home Rovers' fourth goal - much to the annoyance of the home faithful, who believed it should have been disallowed for offside.
